Who we are

The PURE Lab is a team of scientists driven to redefine how environmental pollution is managed.

We recognize that many of today’s most persistent pollutants are also Critical Raw Materials (CRMs), which are materials that are essential for the transition to clean energy systems, such as high-speed electronics.

Our research focuses on turning these environmental challenges into opportunities by developing chemical strategies that transform pollutants into valuable resources and functional materials.

To achieve this, we apply cutting-edge synchrotron-based X-ray techniques to probe, with molecular precision, the reactions that drive contaminant remediation and valorization.

The PURE Lab is led by Case van Genuchten and is housed at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS).
