Synchrotron X-ray Methods Course at the University of Vienna
This month marked the completion of a two-week intensive course on synchrotron-based X-ray methods for soil analysis at the University of Vienna, led by Case as part of a guest professorship.
The course introduced students to the principles and applications of X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analysis, emphasizing how these techniques reveal the molecular-scale mechanisms governing contaminant behavior in soils.
The high level of engagement and curiosity from students made for an exciting two weeks of hands-on data analysis and discussion. Looking forward to expanding training opportunities in synchrotron science and environmental geochemistry in the years ahead!
