Case van Genuchten

Case van Genuchten is an environmental engineer (PhD, UC Berkeley, 2013) with over 15 years of experience designing and deploying pollutant upcycling and remediation methods. He is a Senior Researcher at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) and Laboratory Affiliate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Case is currently Principal Investigator of the Independent Research Fund Denmark (IRFD) Project2 Grant, Valorise, and is Consortium Coordinator for the 2026 Water4All Grant (under the Horizon Europe Programme), Contaminant to Commodity (C2C). He has over 50 scholarly outputs, including peer-reviewed publications and patents, and serves on the Early Career Editorial Board of Environmental Science & Technology. His unique approach to apply synchrotron-based techniques to improve upcycling and remediation methods has resulted in several notable awards, including the James A. Morgan Early Career Award (2025) from Environmental Science & Technology, the Lytle Award (2020) from the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource and the PSIPW Creativity Prize (2012, co-awarded).
